1200 volunteers ignited flaming torches across the 84-mile roman wall in the North East of England last night creating a reconstruction spectacle..
Executive catering provided a
hot snack food station for the workers and press at the event from 2pm until 6pm, below is a short article of events from the day.
Below is a video taken from the sky by helicopter:
2010 is the 1600th anniversary of Constantine's departure from the North of England said to be the demise of the Roman empire in England, the Roman empire feared and hated by many seemed to loose their grip in AD 410 but continued to influence all aspects of life for years to come.
Illuminating Hadrian’s wall is a celebration of what once was in a time that is somewhat hard to imagine compared to modern living, a noticeable comparison of times past and future living developed our own unintentional "line of light".
Below the hills as people travelled to see the reconstruction of the Roman age the vehicles lighted up the roads in bright white and double red with ease compared to the effort of the event it's self.
The first beacon was lit by a group of soldiers at 5.45pm in Wallsend and flowed across the entire length of Hadrian’s wall into Cumbria.
At 6.05pm from the views of the Steel rigg site very quickly you could see each mile-castle lighting up followed by cheers, applause and the occasional scream of excitement, each mile-castle took flame without disappointment and flowed across the hills in perfect timing.
The cost of the event was estimated to be about £300,000 and attracted 25,000 people from around the country.
The
hot snack food station was based at the Steel rigg car park where the illuminating event was managed, the hot snack station provided hot food and drink for all the workers and members of the press.
The event was very successful and our new station managed to serve everyone with out a problem all day.
